BE SURE TO CLICK ON AND BROWSE THE OTHER PAGES (ON THE LEFT). LOTS OF GOOD STUFF ON EACH OF THEM.
This is the official website for the Class of 1956's 50th Anniversary of their graduation from Coronado High School, Coronado, California. NOTE: This website is best viewed using MS Internet Explorer.

In our committee meeting Saturday, July 1, 2006, we decided that a two day Birthday Party Event in 2008, probably in the early Fall, would be a great thing to do. Frannie and Barbara, in Sacramento area, have volunteered to be active on our next event, so I will be contacting them to discuss just what their participation will be.
Meanwhile, there is more news: Besides the memory book, I can put together CDs for anyone who has $5 and wants aLL the pictures without going to the trouble of downloading them one at a time from this website...which you are welcome to do if you want. Anyway, if you want a CD, send me $5 and I will produce it for you. Ed Chew, 2161 Via Aguila, San Clemente, CA 92673. I made 3 tonight and they show well as slide shows. Having the CD will allow you to modify and or/print any picture your heart desires.

There is some redundancy in the text below, not because we meant there to be, but because in our eagerness to get this out to you we just plunged ahead and now treat it as a way of reinforcing some of the earlier text...or I am too lazy to fix it at 10:30PM>
Unbelievable by Sid Orrick (the keystone of our reunion efforts!!!)
Saw a lot of you taking pictures - please share! You can either send them digitally to me at sidtoo@pacbell.net or Ed Chew at ed61@cox.net or snail mail to either of us: Sid Orrik, 1663 Glorietta Blvd. Coronado CA 92118; or Ed Chew, 2161 via Aguila, San Clemente, CA 92673. Jon Sanford, our photographer, will send a CD of all the pictures taken at Vince's fabulous affair to Ed. THEN, you see, Ed will put them on our website: whatever we want. Ed will be able to harvest the shots for the bios. THEN, you see, Ed will put them on our website: whatever we want. Ed will be able to harvest the shots for the bios. All in all - a win/win! So please do share. Our website is http://chsreunion56.com/8401/22702.html so we can click to download as Ed explained in his eMail Wednesday night, 6/21/06, downloading individual photographs is easy and fast. If you have any problem, telephone or email Ed for assistance.
I’m so delighted that all of you came to our 50th
Graduation was an honor, mighty impressive, and fun to be a part of
The dinner/dance alongside the flowering bougainvillea was a major triumph. Coach Kovac and Marv Nottingham had some inspiring (and funny) memories of us. Jim Worthington (who, as Senior Class President thought he was just going to have the job for a year… surprise, surprise work) was our able emcee; Judy Fox Taunt gave a moving tribute/ remembrance of all those classmates who are no longer with us. Bill van der Beek took us further down memory lane with questions from 8th grade - and we knew the answers! Tom Fleming spoke for all the spouses of the deceased classmates at the gathering
The Mexican Fiesta at Chief Ward’s was an opportunity to sit and talk with those we’d wanted to catch up with. Excellent Mexican food was provided, another major victory for the Class of ’56.
I’m unable to capture all the fun, laughter, hugging, hilarity, general "Happy Days" type feeling of all the events. Think the entire Reunion Committee will agree
BTW, heard rumors that some of you think you know where the "missing" or "not located" classmates are. PLEASE contact them and ask ‘em to contact me so we ALL can know where they are
– the World Famous Class of ’56 did it again – actually we OUTdid ourselves again – we have by far the BEST reunions of any CHS Class (lots of folks say so, not just me).– please share! You can either send them digitally to me at sidtoo@pacbell.net or Ed Chew at ed61@cox.net or snail mail to either of us: Sid Orrik, 1663 Glorietta Blvd. Coronado CA 92118; or Ed Chew,http://chsreunion56.com/8401/22702.html so we can click to download whatever we want. Ed will be able to harvest the shots for the bios. All in all – a win/win! So please do share.– what a hoot to see so many we’d not seen in 50 years! We are still the most enthusiastic bunch of folks I’ve ever known… except maybe the UDT/SEALS. Or Marines. Well, let’s just say "civilian" enthusiastic lot.– the timing of EVERYthing was perfect. Even the minor medical emergency was handled with aplomb by our own Doc Flynn administering medical advice and action.– we STILL put him to– very nice speechifying, Tom. The buffet was sumptuous, the servers were cheerful, helpful; and the band had as much fun as we did! All in all a great night – even the weather was perfect.– it was work, yes, but was it worth it…… a WHOPPING ABSOLUTELY, YES! Thanks, classmates, we’ve now got even MORE memories.– every little bit helps keep us united. (One for all and all for one and all that.) Sid
LATE BREAKING NEWS
First: Coach Kovac is coming; and
Second: the plan is printed below and is complete:
How exciting - JOHN KOVAC, the Varsity Basketball Coach who made our team "THE SCIF Small School CHAMPS" (only two divisions in those days - under 2000 and over 2000..we had 493 or so)!! "Race Horse Basketball!" as our yearbook calls that year - 4 out of the following 5 made the All-Avocado first team: Herman Wright, Roger Nix, Jon Crawford, Charlie Love, Steve Solier
So, we're going to have John Kovac, Marv Nottingham, Bev Hinkle, Sue Shaler at our party at Vince's house. Other guests will be Tom Fleming, Fran Adams and Gail Mauro.
Jon Sanford will again be our photographer and we have GREAT music planned by Linda and Al - Heart of Gold (your reunion committee auditioned them and they played ALL the songs we requested!) YOU can add more to the list now or wait til Friday night at Vince's to ask them to play something special to you.
Know we'll all have a great time all 3 days, but the "main event" for partying/dining/dancing is at Vince Flynn's on Friday. Mine is a warm-up for the graduation ceremony, CYC is celebration immediately thereafter; Chief's Fiesta will be the most relaxed get-together around his pool.
The Plan:
THE PLAN IS LOCKED IN. Here is the schedule of events. By now you should have pricing and, hopefully, made reservations, sent in your money and, of course, ordered a Memory Book.
Thursday, June 15th
4:00 PM - 1663 Glorietta Blvd. (Sid Orrik's) (park at Coronado Yacht Club and walk up the hill to Sid's) Name badges distributed here (sign up sheets: local phones, Coronado Brewing Company lunch, to speak at Friday’s party) Appetizers/finger food until 6:00 PM Climb aboard shuttles for trip to football field Graduation 7:00 PM After we receive our diplomas - shuttle to Coronado Yacht Club for sandwiches/ brownies/cash bar....did you think there wouldn't be a bar?
Friday, June 16th
10:00 AM Administrators will take us on a tour of the new Coronado High School and explain what's in progress and what's to be built. We should meet outside the office area. (map to be provided with picture of the new entrance)
12:30 PM possible lunch at Coronado Brewing Company – sign up Thursday at Sid’s.
6:00 PM - 1021 Adella Avenue (Vince Flynn's) T-shirts (be sure to order one for your spouse...NOW..only $10 from George Stevens) distributed here. PICTURES to be taken on arrival in front of a palm frond arch...MEMORY Book pix. Appetizers then buffet dinner Music for background during dinner; short program to commemorate the reunion - this will be the chance for folks to share a memory (Contact Pam Schaefer Oates prior to evening to do this or sign up at Sid’s); and dance music after dinner and perhaps a few beverages.
Saturday, June 17th 5:00 PM - 961 Coronado Avenue (Chief Ward's) Mexican Fiesta around/in swimming pool...always has great parties...worth attending.
Sunday, June 18th
6:00 PM – Spreckels Park bandstand Kearny Mesa Concert Band - Bring own food/drink
Memory Books: We can provide Memory Books full of pictures and Bio sheets for $25. The Bio sheets have been mailed to everyone on our list, both via email and by snail mail. PLEASE, participate even if you are not going to attend and even if you don't want to buy a book.
Speaking of the Memory Book, the book is expected to have about 50 pages, with 10 in living color showing the attendees. Bio sheets and pictures will be in black and white. It may take a little longer to produce the book than originally planned as Ed will be traveling to a wedding up North right on saturday early morning.
The plan is that everyone who submits a bio for the memory book (and pays $25) will GET a memory book even if they don't attend the reunion. If that's the case you'll have to provide a recent photograph - those who attend the reunion will have their picture taken at Vince's house in front of a palm arch....romantic, huh?
We'd like you to be complete in the bio but hope to have each classmate take up only one page. If you don't have a typewriter nor computer, you can send your handwritten words to Ed Chew or me, and we'll type it up for you. If the latter is the case, please try to get these to us as soon as you can so we can get 'em done! If we can have them from you by April 15th (see, you already are aware of THAT date) it would be helpful.
Ed's address: 2161 via Aguila San Clemente, CA 92673 ed61@cox.net
Sid's address: 1663 Glorietta Blvd. Coronado, CA 92118 sidtoo@pacbell.net
If you have any questions, please contact one of us! Looking forward to hearing from you. Sid
The consensus was that the total of about $130/ person for all three events was reasonable for a 50th reunion. However, we did discuss cost reducing possiblities and will keep costs as low as we can while preserving the goal of having a reunion that will be enjoyable.
•Since we will all be “on our own” during the days, would any of you be interested in lunch and a few beers at the Coronado Brewing Company owned by Rick Chapman, Class of 1976. Rick’s dad coached basketball at CHS in the 60s. •Or perhaps, at the Tent City Restaurant also one of Rick’s ventures. •Coronado Historical Society Museum?
We have received some email feedback, but would love to get more and even have you mail pictures by email or snail mail.
